Caribbean Home Help has partnered with BARP to offer 2 two BARP Members each month until December a health check-in with one of our nurses, which will include hygiene care, medication reminders, light tidying of the home, and companionship. We want wanted to provide the ‘gift of help’ to your BARP member so they feel respected and cared for in their homes. We believe as you age you should enjoy a certain quality of life and it is our mission to keep our clients comfortable and safe in their homes. We stand committed to working with BARP to enhance the lives of those aged at home.
The Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP) is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation (NGO) which actively promotes the independence, dignity and purpose in life of our members, representing and expressing their views and concerns, and taking action to bring about change.
BARP was incorporated on October 25th, 1995, and currently has over 26,000 members in good financial standing. We are one of the largest organisations of its kind in Barbados and one of the fastest growing.
BARP
- Acknowledges the achievements of our seniors in creating a nation that we are all proud to call home.
- Celebrates our seniors as resources, not as burdens on our society.
- Will continue to raise awareness on the opportunities and challenges of our rapidly ageing society to ensure that no one is left behind.
- Will continue to be the voice of seniors and promote the development of practices and policies that improve the lives and dignity of older persons.
VISION
A Barbados and wider Caribbean society in which all 40 plus people live with dignity and independence, safety and security, realising their well-being, aspirations and goals.
MISSION
BARP is recognised as an outstanding leader in championing the well-being of 40 Plus people through excellent service delivery, vigorous advocacy, promotion of life-long learning for personal realisation, capacity enhancement and sound governance.
Benefits and Discounts Scheme
Faced with the high cost of living and current economic climate, many BARP members find the Association’s benefits and discounts scheme extremely helpful, saving them between five and twenty-five percent at many businesses island wide, including insurance companies, medical services and hardware suppliers.
Events and Social Activities
Our packed diary of entertainment and social events including, educational seminars and workshops are well attended by the public. At these sessions, members can learn about topics of particular interest to the over 40s.
BARP is also proud of the fact that, within its membership, there is a wealth of wisdom, experience and compassion, all of which helps the Association achieve its aims and objectives. Whether offering their time as volunteers on one of the many community service programmes, or becoming involved in campaigns to end unfair business practices and bring about changes in policy, members wishing to do so can play an active role and in particular, help with the many challenges facing the elderly in Barbados. We invite you to join our group of volunteers in one of our many sub committees.
The Barbados Association of Retired Persons makes an extremely important contribution to the lives, not only of its members, but of all those aged 40 and over in Barbados. As well as their community projects and social and educational activities, the sheer size of BARP’s membership means that policy and decision makers in Barbados will have little option but to pay increasing attention to what BARP has to say. This ensures that the views and concerns of persons aged 40 and over in Barbados can be heard. BARP members and those they represent now have a ‘voice’, and that is the first and most important step in the process of achieving real and lasting change.
